I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2194 laptop with a 1.73 Ghz Intel Celeron M 430 , i want to upgrade to a Pentium M http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=sl77P but am not quite sure if its compatable, and if i would need to buy a new fan/heatsink for my laptop since the Pentium M Thermal Design Power is 70 w and the celeron is only 27 W. what heatsink/fan would any of you recommend if i do indeed need to replace it?

Motherboard - ATI
Model - SB450 Rev0.4b
Chipset - ATi RS400/RC400/RC410
Southbridge - SB400
with BIOS: Phoenix Technologies LTD 5.60 09/30/2008

any help regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated :)

I'm actually about to upgrade my toshiba satellite from a 1.5ghz celeron m to a 1.86ghz pentium m. I have the ATI radeon 200m express chipset. I'll let you know how it works out. According to the toshiba website you have the same chipset as me and it is supposed to support both Pentium M and pentium 4 M processors.

Anyways the processor you are referring to is a Pentium 4 M and is different than a Pentium M. If you put in a Pentium 4 M you might need a more powerful power adapter. If I were you I would get the best Pentium M processor you can find. I paid $30 for the 1.86ghz Pentium M off of Ebay.

I'll post benchmarks soon showing the difference between the celeron m and the pentium m.

avoid the pentium 4 mobile processors, very hot.
however the Pentium M procesor are earlyie ancestor of the core 2 platform, so generally speaking are quite good.
