Just built a new machine, when i powered it for the first time nothing appeared on the monitor but there are repeating 5 or 6 second long beeps.

This is the first time I've built a machine by myself, so I don't really know where to go from here in solving the problems so any advice is appreciated, thanks.

system specs are e8600, evga 790i ftw, 4gb corsair xms3 1600, and a pair of 260 core 216s.

The exact number, length and pattern of beeps is a code for what the problem is. Look in your mobo manual, or search the mobo manufacturer's website, for a list of beep codes and what they mean.
