I'm hoping some of you veterans can give me some direction to solve this issue. I just built a system with:
Rampage Formula
E8500 CPU
4 x 1gb G-Skill PC28500 (F2-8500CL5D)
2 x HIS Radeon HD 4850 ICEQ4 Turbo 512MB
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium FATAL1TY
Antec TruePower Trio 650w
Couple of previously used hard drives (which worked fine before this clean install) and a DVD writer

I've been experiencing a blue screen: 0x0000007f (0x0, 0x0, 0x0) and can't get rid of it.

So far I've tried:
1 - Removed sound card, graphics cards (used other pci-e card), blue screen still happens
2 - Clean install of XP without any drivers installed, including chipset, blue screen still happens
3 - MemTest for about 10 hours, no errors found

Blue screen happens when I run AI Suite (Asus overclocking software). Screen freezes sometimes when I run 3DMark6.

Something's not right, and though I build systems a lot, I don't have any experience with Crossfire (which made me suspicous of my Radeon cards until I removed them and still got the error).

Maybe I've got something in the BIOS set wrong? I don't know. But any ideas would really be appreciated. I'm excited to get this new system running (and want to start oc-ing a bit) but first need to get it running properly, with your help.

Thanks for any tips, ideas, suggestions!

Are you overclocking when this occurs? :P
You could try a stress test with prime95 to try and catch the CPU corrupting data.

Try running the memory 1:1 with the FSB. Do not run AI suite, it's completly not needed on an x48 board.

If you are stable with no blue screens at 667Mhz RAM, you can then look at bumping up the FSB towards 400 and the RAM towards 800.

No overclocking at this point. I set the BIOS to the defaults and only disabled the Floppy Drive, Onboard Audio, and Firewire.

Prime95 runs for a while (about an hour sometimes) but then I come back and my system is off.

It's not that I need to run AISuite, it's just that I can always get the system to blue screen when I use it.

I am not a really experienced overclocker. I basically do it once ever 3 years when I get a new system, but I should understand any directions/tips you guys give me.

For now I changed the DRam frequency to the lowest option (667) and the memory to 333. Does that sound like what you were intending Proximon?

Any other ideas definitely welcomed, thanks!

Asus AI suite sucks!!

Down to business:

Your ram needs 2.0-2.1 voltage, you set everything to default so its giving it 1.8, you have four sticks witch stress it, so you need to bump the rated 2.0-2.2 up to 2.2- 2.3 to get it to run stable. You may alo have to set the timings manually.

Thanks roadrunner! I had left everything to auto thinking that would be safest until I started to try oc-ing it, but obviously that wasn't the best thing to do. I've changed the dram voltage to 2.2 and will give it a run and then report back. The memory timings appear to have held correctly.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your help, I'll report back in an hour or two.

Ok cool. Good luck, and your welcome.

Ok, took me longer to get to this today than I expected, but so far things are running well.

After switching the dram voltage to 2.2 things went pretty well, though I had one freeze-up while installing Nero Ultra. I changed the voltage to 2.3 but had a freeze-up on startup. I switched to 2.22 and things have been pretty good.

I installed AISuite (I know it sucks, I just wanted to see if I could reproduce the blue-screen) and it did blue-screen again. Not sure why on that (feel free to give me any ideas?)

I think I'll run things like this for a few days, and then start trying to overclock a little bit. I'm not looking for amazing results, but would like to maybe get up to 3.4 or 3.5 (that is pretty reasonable isn't it? - I'm using a Zalman CNPS9500 cooler).

Feel free to give me any other suggestions. When you only do this once every few years, you always have a lot to learn! :)

You should be able to get the system to 3.8 with very little effort, and very stable.

It doesn't have to be your memory that is the problem, but it seems like it is given your descriptions.

You might also need a BIOS flash. I see there was an update at the end of august to support the new CPUs and another in Sept to improve memory compatibility. If you already have 0407, probably best to avoid the flash... always a gamble.

Make sure AI suite isn't in your system tray after start up. :p

AI Suite is like hiring a chimpanzee to drive your car to the store while you take a nap in the back seat :)

AI suite is known to be the cause of blue screens. Asus makes great hardware but they should let someone else handle software.

Reply to roadrunner197069

Maybe the AI software is just thinking for itself.

Wow, ok, that is good to know. If my blue-screen problems were only being caused by AISuite, then I won't see them again (I imaged by drive before AISuite install and restored afterward).

BIOS is and was already updated to the latest.

I've got Prime95 running a torture test now, so if I still have issues, I think I'll see them soon (I hope).

Once things are settled, I'll get going on some oc'ing. If I have any more issues, I'll post back, but I'm crossing my fingers that things are solved now. Thanks again guys for the help. It is really appreciated!

Meep meep.

You know, I thought what you said there could be also be said of Microsoft, but then I remembered that they don't really make great hardware.
