Nice screenshot. How does it handle Prime95, how long until one of the cores stops testing, is it after less than a minute?

I still have my e4500 that I test on OC settings on both my P5N-D, P5Q SE PLUS, and even on an ASRock G31 mobo. But I don't go past 1.3475 volts so I can't get it stable (Prime95, Cinebench testing) past 3 GHz.

I have not run prime95 on it yet. Is that compatible with Windows 7?

Currently I am using the burn-in feature of SiSoft Sandra which shows the system as stable after 3 one hour stress tests. Not sure how reliable those readings are though.

I added an antec tricool 80mm to the side door which which blows right into the cpu hsf. That helped lower temps on the from 54c to about 48/49c at full load with the stock intel cooler. Im surprised it made that much of a difference!

I also tried 275 * 12 in an attempt to hit 3.3ghz but the system would not post. Looks like 270 is the limit. Maybe it needs more voltage? Not to familiar with how to adjust those so I havent attempted it. Something about adding more power sounds dangerous :)

If you like to see what it can really do, how high that E4600 can go, get a used (but working good) P45 chipset mobo. Newegg has them for $50 (open box but you can return in 30 days if not satisfied).

Thanks, Ill look in that. Any particular reason for going with a P45 chipset? How is that on different than the current one when it comes to overclocking?

Thanks for all the advice.

The particular reason is this - it's the best chipset for overclocking 775 cpus. You'll have more tweaks for voltages to NB, SB, RAM, etc, etc....

Your old P5L-MXmobo with its antiquated 945G chipset can't hit 1600 or 1800 or 2000 fsb,

Truth hurts, lol. I'm just trying to pull you into the world of overclocking and for that you'll need something made in this decade. I can only say that because we're already two months into this new decade.

That's a very good overclock at that voltage. I could run my old now retired e4400 at 3.2Ghz, but it required a good bump in voltage so you should be happy.
