From the specs of the board it looks like the E7300 should work, but keep in mind that the E6400 is a 65nm chip compared to the E7300 which is 45nm. It would probably be best to contact Gateway and confirm whether the E7300 is supported by the motherboard.

Gateway p965 board will not support it. There are some boards with p965 chipsets that unoffically support 1333 fsb and 45nm's. But dont count on a oem board to have bios updates for them.

I would bet that board woudnt even run the e6*50 series of cpus.

The E7300 has a FSB of 1066 but it doesn't mean that it would work in the motherboard.

I also have a GM5266e which came with an E6400, and upgraded to a E7500, but its running slower than the original cpu. Did you have any luck upgrading your system?
