Can lack of memory causes a blue screen?

I know a girl and she says her computer crashes often, but didn't crash a while ago. She claims no component were changed.

She says that it causes a blue screen, and there are changing numbers. She says that there is some sort of message talking about insufficient memory in the bleu screen. I have not seen it personally.

I asked her to run some programs and she only have 512 MBs of Ram. She has Windows XP professional. Out of these, the computer only seems to be able to use 457 MBs .

So my question is : is the crashing caused by insufficient memory? Would adding RAM solve the problem?

Mmmm, if the pagefile (swap file) was to be fulled, maybe it would BSOD. But for the pagefile to get full would mean she is using ~2GB of RAM or has explicitly set her pagefile too small.
