ok guys this has bugged me for over week since i came back from CES:
When you arrive at CES at the center of the 3 main buildings there are huge flying amd banners - with a dragon. Throughout the show you find very nice fold out brochures with a dragon on them. very nice?
it says in front: "Fusing technolgy with STRENGTH ...FUSION" "DRAGON" (<THEY STOLE THAT FROM ME)
what do you find? well the spider is dead (by spider RIP) and dragon is new - ok? Lets face it AMD is very desperate, then again so is Intel since they cut prices today. Yes, even Intel's profits crashed by almost 90%
When you unfold this very nice dragon brochure you find a chart, a chart of the new phenom II - while it is hard for me to show in words, what the chart shows. The chart says in graphs that amd matches the performance of the new i7 cpu speed.
Amazingly systems we shipped at 3.8-4.3ghz before CES match perfect to the new AMD dragon platform accpet we used an intel cpu and amd cpu's do not run over 4ghz.
NOTE: shows the amd 940, speed shows air cooling to 3.7ghz and 3.9 .... to what look like 5GHZ water cooling
Wait? i7 and amd? chart of what? yes a chart of amd water cooling performance going about above 4ghz. I swear this is an exact copy of the acutal i7 perfromance with amd 940 slapped on it.
The AMD dragon brochure of phenom II shows a graph of air cooling up to 4ghz and then water cooling to 4.5ghz. AMD cpu's do not run this speed but it is a perfect match to out i7 systems!
When i went to google up the chart to paste on a thread i could not find it? Well i have the brochure from CES in my had that clearly show the phonom II reaches 4.3-4.5ghz on water?
ok once again this is all in fun, but absolutely true - i will paste photos of the brochure later if requested by the poll. and only by the poll
finally, why would amd kill spider? spider was cool - now a new dragon platform and fusion? AMD seems to have totally lost it.
i can not find this graph anywhere and i am telling you its an i7 graph put on the amd fold out brochure - this is really really cheap move by amd for CES
the penom is at 3.15ghz and the phenom ii goest to 4.5+ plus
above is hard to read but you can see the 4 ghz and 3ghz and the red is the phenom stopping at the correct 3.15ghz and the "cheater" phenom ii marketing
this guy should be fired that did this
below talks about headroon and overclocking like they copied it from intel builder (like me lol!)
i just hate cheaters always have - its like amd has to cheat to compete - unless i missed something and phenom ii runs to 4.5+ghz
It doesnt say anywhere that it goes to 4.5ghz. The picture is blurry but i am pretty sure that the graph only goes to 4.0ghz. Just because the arrow goes higher doesnt mean they are saying it can achieve 4.5ghz.
i have always loved AMD. For no other reason than their uncanny ablity to kick intel square in the chips when they least expect it. This behavior is however...is very discouraging. Very INTELISH... I understand any PR person can be over zealous but AMD's Phenom II was by all rights a "good-enough" preformance increase when compared to the horrible Barcalona affair. A little trust needed to be re-established before any new attempts to destroy what little is left are hatched!
you are extrapolating 4.8 just because of the lenght of the arrow. there is a reason the graph ends at 4.0. The arrow is just for dramatic effect, and besides there is an asterisk anyways.

dude - its ok to like amd - i have an amd computer but the clearly shows that performance is above 4ghz and up and up to who knows how high
we all know that the limit is below 4ghz on sane voltage and even insane voltage - i do not do insane voltage but ......
I've seen reviews from many sites that reached 4ghz on air and I wouldnt doubt it going to over 4 with water cooling. I just think you are making too much out of it and assuming they are saying it can go to 4.5.
well i think i should have done a good poll - i ment to due a good poll but i could nont find the chart anywhere
then i thought sneeky amd - nobody saves that junk
amd marketing dept thinking: "we get away with it looking just like an i7" -- then we stop the graph at 4ghz "marketing calls engineering" this phonom II thing does 4ghz sometimes like intel does in the site reviews? right?" engeeriing says: "ya" i guess" "sometimes ... depends on the wind direction"
i agree it can be interpereted in many ways VERY SNEAKY! typical amd marketing reminds me of the native quad bs we knew who one that one? lol!

well its about on par with the whole intel rated AMD CPU "effective" speed...as if a athlon xp 2800+ was really as fast as intels p4 2.8 ghz. Old trick new clothes.

------------------------------Anywho back on planet earth where chaos reign's supreme....
now we got the number amd keeps copy intel's numbers
i7 940 or phenom II 940
we all know we need amd or we all be paying $1000 for intel or ibm amd or woarse a samsung
speaking of sansung i switched to samsung hdd since they are faster the f1 is fast and stupid seagate change the platic on the drives so the locking sata cables fall off in shipping
rofl...when i checked the link i realized i was rereading the post as i recoginized many of the responses instantly. very well put and point made spathotan.

i never saw that post - cool, nice link well that explains it. its no going to 4.5ghz on water
my bad should figured amd would pull liqid nitrogen! lol!
now i see amd plan sell cpu at half price, then claim they go much faster then they do in frustation you over-volt it too death and most people will have to buy 2 or 3 cpu's each!
lol!

just my two cents...
Actually the PR for AMD is not ver "Intelish". They have been this way since their break away hit with A64. Don't remember the Barcy claims of purley awesome performance? Thats the same PR. And they over hype their products.
Most companies do. In fact almost every company I know does.
Anywho, good enough is for those who are more simple PC users. For me, and most enthusiasts, we want better than good enough. We want an amazing jump. Like from Pentium D to Core 2.
