what is better, cost being about the same, a p45 board with a 4870x2 or a 780i board with a gtx280.

i have heard that the p45 or x48 or more stable boards than the 780i/790i. the gtx280 is cheaper than the 4870x2 but the 780i board is more expensive than a p45.

yeah i think i will go with the 4870x2 and p45, and to answer whether i need such a powerful card, hell no, no way i will ever use a fraction of its power, but i just want it you know?

Gotta make sure it's future-proofed, right? ;)

future proof for the graphics card, but is the p45 really all that future proof? i mean the 780 i chipset, may have some bugs, but with the option for triple sli, especially when gtx280 prices drop which they already significantly have, the sli combo might be the most future proofed. i dunno, as of now im still leaning towards the p45 and ati card. i will build in december so it gives a little time for the 4870x2 price to drop (its slowly starting to go down).

The p45 is good for a single 4870x2, but it will be bottlenecked if you decide to go crossfire with another 4870x2 later on. Honestly though, by the time you'll need another 4870x2, there will be another card that will out-perform it.
