I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who directly or indirectly assisted me on my first build. This forum contains a wealth of useful information.
I assembled my components (see below) yesterday over the course of 3-4 hours (my 4-year old was helping me...). I initially had what appeared to be a PSU problem but after reseating all the power connectors the system came up fine. All devices were recognized and the cpu was running nice and cool.
I didn't have to configure anything in the BIOS. As soon as it asked for the boot disk, I put in Vista and it installed without a hitch. I still need to get on-line to download updates and drivers.
Once I have a stable system, I plan to do a modest overclock. I'm sure I'll have questions at that point but I know others have done it with my CPU/mobo combination.
As with most products, I wish manufacturers could put a little more effort into their instructions. It's a minor quibble but a clear, concise manual would probably reduce unwarranted returns and technical support.
Now time to fill out all those rebate forms...
