Hello Tomshardware Community!

I would like to upgrade my ram from 2GBs to 4GBs. However my motherboard supports both DDR2 and DDR3 ram. Is there a major difference between ddr2 and ddr3 ram? is it noticeable? I mainly use my pc for photoshop, Autocad, Maya and Microstation.

This is my spec for my pc:

- Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz (1066FSB) running @stock speed
- Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler
- Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
- Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX TwinX (2x1GB)
- EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS SuperClocked 320MB GDDR3
- Corsair HX 620W Power Supply
- Antec P182 Tower Case
- Running with window xp sp3

Any suggestion would be appreciated! Thx

No point in using DDR3 for your current system unless planning to upgrade to an i7 in the very near future.

Unless you're planning on extreme OCing, 6400 is fine.
