Hey All, been AGES since I posted.. anything.

I really want to get away from using the Onboard Sound/Network on my Gigabyte GA965p DS3

I can figure out what to go for in Sound but, Honestly I've used Onboard Network for so long I'm not sure what company/specifications I should grab.



Current PC = Gigabyte-GA-965p-DS3
2gig Kingston ram,
E6600 C2D,
Sapphire Radeon X1950XT
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB,
SONY 16X DVD±R DVD Burner With 5X DVD-RAM Write
*cough*VISTA*cough* CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply *honestly this was a mistake but i had no time to switch it out...*
all in an Antec Performance One P180.

I'm curious... what is the reason for ditching the on-board NIC? Any 100 megabit card should do you fine... it's not like any of us have a home internet connection that would require gigabit. It's been ages since I used anything but an on-board NIC. If you're dying to go crazy with your NIC purchase, there's the Killer NIC (ugh). Other than that I'd just stick with an Intel one.

The gigabyte P965-DS3 has onboard gigabit lan, or at least mine does. Why do you need/want to change?
Onboard sound is good. You will be hard pressed to detect the difference unless you have very good speakers and are an audiophile. Any cpu savings will be miniscule, particularly with a quad.
If you have a few bucks to spend, I would suggest upgrading to 4gb.

Nothing is wrong with it, but it's really for SLI so it has two power thingies *yeah I said thingies!* for 2 Vid Cards. I have been pondering the 4gb upgrade, unsure if I should just get another 2g kit or a 4gig kit and give the old 2gigs to a friend..

If you want to upgrade to a stronger single video card, you will want two power *thingies*.
Get the 4gb kit. It is not very expensive and you avoid potential problems by insuring that the two sticks are electrically the same. Get a 2x2gb configuration. It is easier on the mobo, and you preserve your option to go to 8gb. DDR2-800 is fine. Don't pay extra for faster speed or better timings. The difference in gaming is miniscule.
