Hi, i am new to posting at Toms, if my post is in the wrong category, then i would like to apologize before hand and would like to request the admins to move it to the right section.

The computer is an old AMD Athlon 64 3500+ compaq system. the motherboard is A8M2N-LA.

Now the problem is that , when the system is turned on, the keyboard and mouse (regardless of usb or ps2) it wont be detected. and it gives an error in windows. without the keyboard and mouse plugged in, the system will boot fine. but without use as the keyboard and mouse still wont connect after it is on the desktop.

So as a solution i took the whole motherboard and cpu out, and tested the system on top of a cardboard box, booted it up and it works fine, no error or whatsoever, usb/ ps2 both works. back in the case, it does the same thing again.

I believe there is something shot circuiting the motherboard.

is there a work around for this? or would you guys recommend a new case for this?

thank you.

Replacing the case might not resolve the issue. You'll have to figure out what and where the short occurs. Are there large posts under the motherboard that could short out if the motherboard isn't perfectly centered? You could also check the backplate to make sure that it isn't causing the issue (you can remove it for that test).
