i was wondering if this is a good setup as far as being able to play everything i want to throw at it for awhile.

i'm going to add another 2gigs of ram. probably overclock the processor unless i feel it's performing well enough in games atm. i'll also drop in another 8800GTS card for sli. so is this a good future proof build?

I would drop that ram and get 2x2 from the start. $45 after $25 mail-in rebate.
I wouldn't be too about the rebate date expiring at the end of this month. They had the same exact rebate last month and probably (or hopefully) will have the same rebate in november.

Also please state your budget.

Your PSU isn't the best. People generally recommend a corsair 750W or a antec 650W. I am not much good in that area.

I wouldn't go with the 8800GTS even in sli. I would go with a 9800gtx+ sli.
Many people will recommend getting the hd 4850 and crossfire in a p45 mobo.

p45 is a great value right now and the prices might come down even more once the new chipset is released from intel. also for power supply new egg has the antec quatro 850w for 139 bucks. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817371009

also i like the case. i am actually going to buy one myself. i think it beats out the antec 900 right now, on new egg they got a 20 MIR so its 89 bucks and also there are holes for cable management something the antec 900 lacks.

+1 for P45 +4850.

I doubt you will need 750w of power, even for a Crossfire system with the 4850. 550 should suffice; get a Corsair (VX), Antec (Neopower, Earthwatts), Silverstone (Strider), or SeaSonic.
Actually, I am running my quad rig on a 400w Strider. I doubt I could touch 400w with it if I tried.
As long as one of these is your choice, it is really a matter of personal preference. Might want to research which ones are quieter (or whether you will want a modular).

Nothing is future proof, but here's what I'd consider:
CPU - is fine, you could go with an e8400/e8500 if you want a bit more performance for 95% of games out.
CPU/Mobo combo - $305 shipped!! e8500 CPU (3.16 gHz)/Gigabyte UD3P p45 based mobo!!
3rd combo from bottom of page

GPU/Memory - $177 - $20 MIR = $157!!! AMD 4850 w/2x1 gb's 800mHz DDR2. Not the fastest setup, but definately hard to beat at this price. Not knowing the budget, I'm going to assume that he's wanting to save $ and have good performing gaming machine!!
3rd combo from the top!!
If he's not running a 64bit OS, the 2x1gb's of DDR2 will do. If he wants to install more than the OP should use a 64bit OS.

Case/PSU combo - $96 shipped!! Antec 300 case w/Antec NeoPower 550w PSU!! Hard to beat this combo price right now.
2nd combo from the top!!

HD - $75 shipped!! Good fast performing HD!!
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

DVD Burner - $30 shipped!! Retail version, comes with software to read/Burn DVD's!!
LITE-ON Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache IDE 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with Smart Erase - Retail

Total = $678 - $40 MIR's = $638!!!

------------------------------ PSU Tiers
GPU Power
8800gtx w/e6600 OC'd will run on Antec 380w w/27A on 12v rail, PSU!!
