I'm currently assembling a new PC with P5N7A mobo, but Vista can't find the HDD when I run the installation.
I'm using Seagate 500GB SATA, which is formatted to NTFS, but not detected by Vista installation DVD.
Vista installation asks for drivers, but can't find them on the supplied ASUS DVD.
I also try to force the installation to use the drivers supplied on the DVD, but the drivers are not identified.
BIOS detect the HDD, and it can be found by XP installation.
Found in other forum that loading correct drivers can be the issue,
As Vista don't have them available from start.
Will try to load all necessary drivers to USB stick before trying again.
Did you ever find a solution to your problem with the ASUS P5N7A (GeForce 9300) mobo? I am currently experiencing the same thing -- Vista "sees" the drives and allows me to partition/format all of my HDDs (2x Seagate 7200.11 500GB) but when I choose the drive to install Vista x64 on, it says "Windows cannot determine if there is a valid system drive on this computer".
So if you can please let us know what the outcome was, it'd be appreciated.
Thanks/727

After wiping the HDD with zero-fill (used Seagate's own tool) Vista managed to find the drive and installed fine.
BUT, after that I hade problems with the driver package supplied by ASUS, and haven't been able to get it running properly.
Seems to be related to the graphic driver itself, once I try to increase the assigned video memory to 512 MB instead of the
default 256, the system got instable and I got BSOD. After that I could not get it up and running again,
regardless of what settings I tried in the BIOS.
This weekend I wiped the HDD again, and this time I will make sure to use Nvidias own driver package
once the OS is installed. I will also make sure to update the FW of my hard drive, it is one that is affected by the FW-issue described by Seagate. Don't think that has any affect to the function, just want to minimize any reason for the problems I experience.
Currently I am not very satisfied with the function of the MOBO, but I don't know if it's Vista related or the HW itself.
Will give you further info once I have tried the installation again.
