Hey yall.

Got a pretty serious problem here.

Just got a 4Gig set of 1066Mhz ram, and Im having a problem when trying to put it in my MSI P45 Platinum board. When I put one stick in slot 0, I can boot to Windows just fine.

I went in to bios, set the frequency to 1066Mhz, timing of the first stick to 5-5-5-15, saved and restarted, and it would boot.

I put the second stick in, and I cant get to POST.

I take the first stick out and leave the stick in slot 2 in, and I get the same result. BIOS, same timings and Mhz rating were already there, even with the memory in a different slot. Booted just fine past that.

Both sticks in this time, POST's fine, but wont boot all the way to Vista.

Really odd thing is, earlier today when I had my set of 2Gig 800Mhz in the same slots, everything worked just fine...

Any help?

Do you have the newest BIOS? If you do have the newest bios and the system will support the ram and there is nothing wrong with the ram modules then you must manually set the timings and ram voltage in the bios. I'm betting on the voltage. Notice how you didn't tell us what mobo you have (several models of MSI P45 Platinum) or what exact brand and model of ram you have. Please include and someone might chime in with the perfect answer.

Sorry about that, I was kinda in panic mode last night.

Here's the really funny thing:

After switching both sticks from the 0 and 2 slots to the 1 and 3 slots, I was at one point able to boot to Vista with no problems at all, and ran all night without a problem. When I got up this morning, I was back to the no-POST problem. All the mobo lights would come on, video card fan would go to 100%... but wouldnt slow down, and no video would show up.

Im hopeing its something as simple as a bad voltage setting for the new RAM, because Im starting to get kinda freaked out.

Oh and...

Any help?

OK, now Im confused...

I set the memory voltage to 2.0V in BIOS, and I was able to boot with both sticks in just fine.

I downloaded CPU-Z, and checked my memory slots, and they are both showing up with the proper size (4Gig total), but even after the adjustments, they're showing up at just 400Mhz.

HELP?!

to get to 1066Mhz, you'll need 2.1V if you want it to be stable. and as for cpu-z detecting 400Mhz, that's a little odd. try resetting the CMOS and starting fresh.

oh, and how about them sabres? :D

See that's what's odd. I set to 2.1, and it went back to not even posting with both sticks in...
