I just recently ordered the Gigabyte X58A-UD3R motherboard and a WD Caviar Black 640GB Sata 6.0Gb/s

I was wondering if there is anything special required to connect the HDD to the mainboard? Does the gigabyte board come with a SATA III cable or can I connect them using a SATA II cable?

Thanks,

Aussiekid

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

I think that you can find all that information in the manual of the mobo.

Thanks, but I was hoping to figure the answer out before it arrived so if I need a special cable I can buy it now.

Well, after that I read the manul online of your mobo, only comes with SATA 3Gb/s, so I think that could need buy some SATA 6Gb/s.

But for be 100% sure, you can contact with ASUS support and they tell you if you need buy it or not.

For check the SATA 6Gb/s, See here
