Just a quck question. Im trying hard to decide what card to get. is there any point in getting a 4870x2 with a 22" monitor? The res is 1680x1050. Isn't it right that at any res less than 1920x1200 the frame rate, graphics performance, etc is more concentrated on the CPU rather than the GPU? Cos if this is the case then a 4870x2 is surely going to be bottlenecked by mt monitor and not perform to its full potential.
at 1680x1050 your 4870X2 2g and a 4870 1g gonna have about the same FPS but its still a better card. whit full AA AF the 4870X2 will beat the 4870 i think.
Well i had a 22" monitor before with mh HD 4870X2,well as i have talked about in SLI/CF FAQ, multiGPU shines @ resolutions like 1920x1200 or higher but for 1680x1050 4870X2 is very good too,no doubts about it,so if u have the money then go for it

Yeah its alot better that my old 22"bigger,better resolution and better image quality the good thing is that i didnt see any noticeable FPS drop from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200,it really takes full advantage of my X2
What is your CPU? At 16x10 res I don't think that you would see much of a difference between a 4870 1gb and a 4870 x2 2gb. There was another thread about this. I'll post it if I can find it.
the good thing is that i didnt see any noticeable FPS drop from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200,it really takes full advantage of my X2
Why would there be an FPS drop? Sorry i'm confused!
I have a Q6600, wanna overclock it to about 3.4 - 3.6. I cant see the 4870x2 on the benchies topper posted up! I dont really wanna get the 280, would rather go with ATI. I can see that at 16x10 there is not a great deal of need for the 4870x2 as the 4870 1gb would have pretty much the same results. Im just trying to save myself a little monies in the future when i upgrade again.
to peaks:well generally when u go from a lower resolution to a higher resolution,u will see FPS drop because the card has to work more to produce more performance.but with this card,i actually didnt see a FPS drop (in games like FC2,CRYSIS WARHEAD and STALKER CLEAR SKY) when going form 1680x1050 to 1920x1200.
If u look @ some benchmarks u will see some cards cant produce enough power for high resolutions.
For example when u compare 2 cards,u may see one of them works very well in both low resolutions and high resolutions without having alot of FPS drop, but another card may do well in low resolutions but as u crank up the resolution u will see alot of FPS drop.
thats what i meant

Your right. Im not gonna go over 22" and the max res for them are 16x10 right. therefore it would be a waste of money me getting a 4870x2. gonna get the same performance from a single 4870.
boulard83 : you said the 4870 might lose out whenit comes to AA AF but it cant be that much right? Nothing that is goingt o be too noticable?
so a 4870 1gb would do eh ... because i have the exact same question as peaks, I have a Q6600, a 22" monitor, and a need for a card that would last me quite a while. If a 4870 1gb is future proof ... then wouldn't a 4870x2 be even more futureproof? say if he ever wanted to go crossfire in the future but only has a single slot PCI-E mobo like me, wouldn't the 4870x2 be a better choice?
If someone has the money and can afford the HD 4870X2,then its worth it even in 1680x1050 but a HD 4870 is a good choice too and will manage games fine.

I have decided at the res i am playing 1680x1050 i am going to go with the single 4870 1GB. If i ever get a higher res it wont be for a while and by then there will be something better out, plus crossfire is always an option. the 4870 is a good card and is going to give me excellent bang for buck!
Could you guys recommend any manufacturers? I was thinking Gainwood??
