Under clocking my 9600 gt

hi im having the black screen of death problem with this card i heard that underclocking to 550 from the stock 650 stablizes the card. i tried riva tuner but it says that it does not know display driver. and evertime i set core clock speed and press apply i goes right back to stock im using nivda driver
