I will also need a new psu for this so if someone could point me in the right direction for one as i dont know what i would need.

My current specs are:

Nvidia Geforce 7600GT 256MB
2 - 1GB DDR2 sticks
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz
i think a 400 watt psu that's will soon break.

What country are you in?

Good thing I asked. Otherwise everybody assumes USA and you get links to Newegg, but Newegg won't ship outside the USA.

Does your motherboard have a PCI-E slot?

9800GTX is a good card, but there are some newer ones that give better bang for the buck, at least at North American prices. I'll take a look at ebuyer and see.

You need at least a 450W PSU for the 9800GTX (or for the HD 4850, it's main competitor).

One more thing: try to add 2 more GB of RAM. Here's an article about that:

OK, I took a look. It's weird, in your country the HD 4850 is actually cheaper than the 9800GTX+, even though it's a bit faster. You can get a BFG 9800GTX+ for 162 pounds and a Sapphire HD 4850 for 123 pounds.

I chose BFG and Sapphire because these are among the most reliable brands for nVidia and ATI cards respectively. I don't trust PNY.

If you get the HD 4850 download Driver Cleaner and run it, to remove the 7600GT drivers properly. Actually, if you get the 9800GTX+ do it too because it's a different card generation and there may still be problems.

Either way, you'd need a decent 450W (or larger) PSU as I mentioned before. I would recommend this one for example:
Corsair 550W VX £57.42

There's a 450W version too for £47.99 but that will give you very little room for upgrades.

Wow thanks a lot. Most likely get the sapphire HD graphics n corsair psu. Also i do have a PCI E slot. I was going to sell my ram n get 2 2GB ones (as i only have two slots) as mine are rather slow speeds.

And again thanks a lot.

If you`re still reading, TURVS, use a price comparason site like KELKOO to check prices before making a decision. Prices vary wildly here in the UK and many sites have 'limited time' offers that can really save money!

lol didnt think of that thanks.

In Canada we have "shopbot" doing that sort of thing. I found it largely useless, because I don't want to trust my credit card info to some small company I never heard of, just because shopbot found it. It does help though when it finds a good price at a retailer I actually know. Be careful with that, OK?

You could also surf to a few other online retailers and check prices.
