S.M.A.R.T. hardware disc failure is imminent (Backing Up?)

Just recieved the hardware disc failure message at boot up. Press F10 for setup, or F2 to continue. nothing happens when i ipress F2, hangs. Disconnected the SATA drive and tried to connect it to another PC and clone the drive to a new one. The other PC won't load windows now. Bios recognizes the HD, but windows won't load up until I disconnect the faulty HD. Is there anyway to clone this drive or is it too far gone? Sad part is it's only 3 months old. Any help would be great.

  1. The only utility that I know of that is supposed to fix this kind of problem is spinrite - at $89 it's kinda a question of how much your data is worth.
  2. OK, thank you for your reply. Fortunately I backed up about 3 weeks ago, photo's, music, etc. I just can't believe it died so soon. I couldn't even run a chkdsk on it. Totally Toast. It would spin up, when powered, then nothing.
  3. You're welcome. I certainly wouldn't trust the drive after this. Hopefully the manufacturer will replace this lemon for you.
