I've been trying to build a system mainly for running a lot of applications (so fast CPU/Memory, with help of OC), but I wouldn't mind some gaming support either.
From what I have gathered, I would be needing something like a Q6600 with an Asus P35 (Deluxe?), 4 GIGs of RAM, and a something like a Geforce 9600 GT.
I could overclock the Q6600 up quite a bit, but I don't care for getting the most out of it either. For that, I would be needing a stable OC setup.
I don't have sufficient knowledge on the current top brands/technologies, so I would appreciate it if someone could pick some parts for me, an possibly link them to probably newegg.ca.
Q6600
Gigabyte DS3R
4GB DDR2 800 CL4 Mushkin
HD3850 or HD4850 (just fit it to your budget)
Xigmatek HDT-S1283
hmmm...do you need to buy everything (casing, psu, monitor, etc.) or just the ones which I have mentioned? I choose those components because I assume that you have to buy all. BTW...how much are $1000 CDN to US or euro?
------------------------------Intel Q6600 @ 3.0GHz + ASUS P5E X38 +
4GB DDR2 1000 CL5 Mushkin + Coolermaster Dominator Xcalade 690 + Corsair VX 450W + HIS HD 3850 512MB Turbo + Seagate 500GB 7200rpm 32MB + Zalman CNPS 9700 LED + Logitec EX110 + ASUS VW198S.

US dollars are very expensive for me lately (fluctuated in the past 3 months from 1.00 to 1.30 and now worth 1.21$ CDN) so it works to my disadvantage if I buy in US dollars. 1 Euro is worth 1.52$ CDN.
I should have been more specific with the exact part needs. I already own a 24 inch LCD 1920x1200, mouse keyboard, and need all the rest (though basic DVD RW, mid size SATA II hd, which I can probably yake care of myself).
Let me know what you think; don't want to ask for too much, but if you could include something like a two word description for each part as to why it is chosen, that would clarify a lot for me.
Is it worth buying higher clocked memory? From what I remember when looking at it, 1066MHZ isn't that much more expensive (unless it is for the type you specified).
Is it better to buy 800 MHz memory CL4 or 1066MHz memory, but CL5 for instance?
Or should I go for 1066MHz CL4? What is the answer to these with overlclocking?
And is it better to get Q8200 with 1333 MHz FSB and 45nm + new instructions? I figure the only reason not to is because I read that it won't overclock as well.
Can anyone provide some estimates on what OC speeds I can reach on the Q6600 and Q8200?
