SViking case, Antec true 550 power supply, DFI LanParty NForce 4 series 1 motherboard, 2gb of RAM, Athlon 3700+ (2.2ghz) processor, 74gb raptor hdd installed. Air cooled. I haven't OCed it at all myself, so its still at the settings that it shipped in from Monarch.

Obviously a very old system that I will be replacing hopefully in 6 months or so. My 8800 gts just died and I'm trying to find the cheapest graphics card possible that will keep the bottleneck at the cpu rather than move it to the graphics card. I mainly play Warhammer online.

Someone suggested an 8600 gts, which is currently super cheap @ $29.99. I haven't gotten any other replies though, and I'd really like to confirm that this card would be good enough. App of choice is Warhammer online.

Thanks!

I've gotten a zotac 8600gt and the fan crapped out on me, just sayin watch out for those ultra cheap video cards.

If you don't mind playing at medium settings the 8600gts should hold you over. Otherwise, spend a few extra bucks and get the 9600gt or the 3870.

The $30 8600 gts is an EVGA card. I'm a bit puzzled by the medium settings comment -- I was playing the game at basically bare minimum settings with my 8800 GTS and still getting only mediocre performance.

The question what the bottleneck is. With the 8800 GTS I'm pretty sure it was the cpu. Thus getting a cheaper replacement card won't matter... but the question is how low I can go before the graphics card starts to cripple me further than my cpu already was.
