try to remove it in the device manager and see if windows reinstalls it. If its for a device that is usb them right click it in device manager and click update driver say have disk and point to the drivers .inf file to reinstall it.
On connecting to my PC via a usb2 link (XP Home) a blue screen shut down happened
During a full system scan a box diplaid saying that Windows Delayed write failed.Windows was unable to save tha data for file
H:\$Mft, the data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your hard ware. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
H: is the Maxtor drive letter.
"One of the USB devices has malfunctioned and windows does nor recognise it".Click this message to help solve it.I reconnected the hard drive
and the maxtor manager now says that the drive is not connected. The Maxtor H: drive does not show in My Computer
I have done a full system virus scan and a hard dive check on C:
This is a reply I got from Seagate Tech Support :-
:
The current issue you are having is a problem that the USB Drivers are corrupted or damaged and need to be reinstalled.
You can do this from the computer manufactor's web page... or mother board web page if you built the system your self.
You might also want to clean up some of the problems that could happen from the older software on your drive...
1) Turn off the Maxtor Manager <next to your clock the M , right click on it and choose EXIT>
2) Now go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel <Start...Settings... Control Panel...Add/Remove Programs>... and let it populate then go down the list to find the MAXTOR MANAGER/Backup program and REMOVE IT... but do not let the system reboot YET.
3) Close the Add/Remove Programs box... and the Control Panel... and go into My Computer... open the C drive... double click on the DOCUMENTS and SETTINGS folder... double click on the ALL USERS folder... double click on the APPLICATION DATA folder...< this might be a hidden folder ( Click on TOOLS across the top, drop down menu click on Folder Options... then click on the VIEW tab... put a DOT in-front of SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS then click OK ) >... now in APPLICATION DATA folder... look for a MAXTOR folder... RIGHT CLICK on it and DELETE it
4) Restart your computer.
5) Follow the link for the most updated version of OneTouch 4 Plus
--------------------------
I down loaded the lastest software as advised and it is now in an unzipped file on my PC.
I have also removed the old Maxtor softwars as advised
My mother board is an ASRock 939NF6G-VSTA ,I have looked here
http://www.asrock.com/mb/download. [...] 9NF6G-VSTA but not do I not know what I am looking for I would not know what to do if I found it.I still have the
CD that came with the M/board by the way.
So ,I have a an external hard drive that is not now recognised, need to reinstall the usb drivers and I don’t
know how and my printer is not not responding. I have an unzipped file with the following in it. Bn Drivers EULA Guides Autorun Launch
demoshield multiCD laucnch macrovision Launch config settings one touch4 plus DNg file 51.99MB.When I get the new usb drivers ,I don’t know what to do when I get round to reconnecting the hard drive. It has software preloaded for installation.
I have XP Home an ASRock 939 NF5GVSTA Motherboard An AMD Athlonx2 dual core 4200+ mmx 3 D now processor 4GB Ram.
Well………….you did ask what the problem was!
I am not much more that a pc novice and any help that can be put in simple terms would be great.
That board should use the built in drivers for USB.
I have never had this issue ever. An unknown device is in many cases caused by a bad cable or not enough power on the port(should not be an issue here).
Try to put you printer on another port with the CD that came with it in the drive so windows can find the drivers.
As for the drive, keep an eye on it. USB drivers do not just corrupt on there own or at least I have NEVER seen that.
The drivers on the Asrock site are very old, If you update anything get it from Nvidia.com for the main drivers, but be warned in some cases the network drivers can cause issues for some users.
To have windows reinstall USB device drivers you will need to uninstall the device in device manager. after a restart windows will reload the required drivers for the drive from its driver cache.
Right click on computer, pick Manage.
Computer management screen will come up, Click on Device Manager on the left, then expand the option for Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
You can right click on the USB root Hub and use uninstall. This will disable the USB port and all connected devices until the computer preforms a restart. You can preform this action for all USB root HUB's listed but please note that if your mouse and keyboard are USB devices they will become disabled. You can check what device is connected to each listing for USB root Hub by double clicking on each one, which brings up a property window. Under the "Power" table it will display which items if any are associated to that Hub. While uninstalling the USB Root Hubs skip over any that has a USB mouse or USB keyboard. Then when complete restart the system.
Once the USB drivers are all reinstalled you can connect the external drive. Which it would detect as a new device, install the required drivers and show up in Computer as another drive.
Should you require the Maxtor Manager it can be reinstalled, but is not mandatory to drag n drop items to the drive, unless the drive has a password set in which case it will not show up in the Computer window until the software has been installed and the password entered.
Installing the Maxtor Manager from the unzipped file requires double clicking on the Launch.exe to begin the install.
So I have not used the Maxtor drive yet because I am summoning up the courage to do the
Above and then connect the drive again
Here are some extracts concerning the history :-
This is from an email I sent
Have just looked in the back up log and it was full of items, none of which were accepted including music ..............

Many, even most, Seagate and Maxtor-brand external drives are sold with bundled backup and management software.
However, in some cases it is not possible to use such software. A few examples are:
1. A user has lost or uninstalled their software and needs a temporary (or permanent) means of using the external drive to backup data.
2. A user's bundled backup software is malfunctioning for a time.
3. A user prefers to backup data manually.
4. The drive did not include any bundled backup software.
5. The user is using the drive for additional storage and has an alternate method of backing up.
Every model of Seagate and Maxtor-brand external drive has a ready-to-use formatting already in place. In Windows, there is no need to do anything special or additional to make the drive work. Simply plug in the power, plug in the USB/Firewire/eSATA cable, and the drive should appear in (My) Computer and Windows Explorer almost immediately
---------------------
When I first connected up the external drive, unbeknown to me it was carrying out a back up plan
Automatically.
All I want is to drag + drop selected files + folders into the folders I want to make in the new drive.
What concerns me also is how to empty what ever files are in the H: drive and will this happen again because it has caused a lot of hassle.
Is this what I need to do - and what would be the consequences for the future ?
Backup refers to making copies of data so that these additional copies may be used to restore the original after a data loss event. These additional copies are typically called "backups." Backups are useful primarily for two purposes. The first is to restore a state following a disaster (called disaster recovery). The second is to restore small numbers of files after they have been accidentally deleted or corrupted.
If you are wanting to use the drive as the only source of data and only as more space, and are not wanting to backup at all. The you want to uninstall the software and format the external drive. To format and clear the external drive you want to right-click on it in my computer and choose format. This will clear all the preexisting data off and leave more open space for you.
From Seagate ……………
to uninstall and remove one of Seagate or Maxtor-brand bundled software programs, is it enough to use the Windows Add/Remove Programs action in the Control Panel?
When uninstalling any of the software programs bundled with Seagate or Maxtor-brand external drives, an additional folder must be deleted out of the Application Data (XP) or Program Data (Vista) folder before restarting the computer and reinstalling any software.
A list of the relevant programs, products and instructions follows.
First instructions:
1. Click on the Start menu.
2. Select Settings (if necessary).
3. Select Control Panel.
4. Select Add/Remove Programs (in Windows XP) or Programs and Features (in Windows Vista) and allow it to populate and display the programs.
5. Find the program you want to uninstall and then select "Remove".
6. Do not reboot the computer yet. Move on to the instructions in the table below, marked out by product:
7. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data (XP) or C:\Program Data (Vista).
8. Delete the "Maxtor" folder.
9. Reboot the computer. Finished.
This is the last advice from Seagate
To have windows reinstall USB device drivers you will need to uninstall the device in device manager. after a restart windows will reload the required drivers for the drive from its driver cache.
Right click on computer, pick Manage.

Have not changed the printer port………(..would not know how to )
Would it be best to wait until The new usb drivers are installed before changing anything to do with the printer?
If windows does not find the drivers from its cache on reboot, would they not be on the CD that came with the motherboard?
Does the above advice make sense to you ann should I follow it?
I have followed their advice, removing the old software and uninstalled the usb root hubs etc and XP reloaded all the necessary after reboot.I did not change anything re the printer. It was playing up prevoiusly, had to keep pressing the resume button
for it to print.I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the printer CD but it is still not responding.Could this be a coincidence that it has given up at the same time? The green power light is flashing amber now(CannonS330 photo).
Re the Maxtor, I presme it did work, it was doing a back up auto without me knowing it,the light was flasihng on it as it worked.Although it did not import anything really because they were system files and were not allowed in.I deleted the backup plan and it stopped importing.
I want to get the printer sorted before I think about reconnecting
really because they were system files and destination was denied
Go into the control panel under printers and see if you have a pile of documents trying to go to the printer. If there are delete them all(in there, not the actual files). Then try to reconnect the printer, but first unplug the printer(for 1min or so) to get rid of anything it has in memory that it was trying to print.
You can always try what roadrunner says System Restore does not hurt your files on the desktop or my docs folder. You would have to turn back off the Maxtor thing as it may come back to being installed and set to auto backup.
Thanks for all the time and trouble you all have gone to.I un installed the Cannon Software- had to do what you advised about the printer q first, was able to do it via the cannon programme.(did not know about the con. pan. route)Re installed with the origiinal CD -Still the same.So I got onto Cannon Support with the symptons and they confirmed that the printer was
kaputt. So it was a coincidence it happened at the same time.
When I sort a new printer I wll return to Maxtor connection issue and report back,
thanks once again for your help.......................Editman
I am now only using the Maxtor for drag and drop only and have deleted the software that was on the drive but I am still having problems.
MAXTOR HARD DRIVE PROBLEM 25 March 2009
On connecting my Maxtor External Hard Drive first of all a box shows saying that this device can perform faster if connected to a USB 2 port. For a list click here.
I am sure it is USB 2 any way, this does not show with anything else that is connected to the same socket.I can cope putting up with this if nothing can be done.
But there another problem that I cant cope with.
When the drive is recognised another box shows saying :-
Windows Corrupt File-
The file or directory H:\SystemVolume\EfaData\SYMEFA.DB-jourrnal is corrupt and unreadable.
Please run chdsk utility.
H: is the Maxtor Hard drive.
I have run check disk on the C: drive but when trying to do so on the H: drive ,after the 2nd phase
“Windows unable to complete disk check” shows.
When it is connected ,(and only when) I am unable to delete images in my Video Editing Software-
Coral Video Studio !!+ ,a message shows in it saying “Load Stream Error”.A blank white icon shows where the image would be and when I try to close the box another white box appears next to the first one but has a cross in it.I can only close the programme via the task manager. But everything seems to work ok when the Maxtor is disconnected.
