CAD Workstation based on E8600 -- will this work?

Here is a selection of components I have in mind for a CAD workstation based on the E8600. I work in 3D (Rhino 3D) and I need more speed and memory. This would be my first attempt to build a computer, so if there is a wrong step here, please let me know. Thank you for your insights.
Regards, Michael

  1. That is a very expensive motherboard for your use. I would pick up a quality P45 chipset board and 4GB of DDR2 RAM. The speed difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is almost non-existent. You might as well get 4GB since you have a 64-bit OS. Here are a few parts to consider:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

    mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

    G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

This Xigmatek cooler is also currently on sale and cools better than the Freezer 7 Pro:

XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler - Retail

I would also recommend the retention bracket.

XIGMATEK ACK-I7751 Retention Bracket - Retail
