So, ive had my computer for about 2 months now. I bought a HD4870 512 as a video card. Im running 4GB of ddr2800 ram and a E8400 oc`ed too 3.4. now, in Wow im only seeing around 30-40fps at 1680x1050. In COD4 i get around 40-60 FPS. now, at this resolution i was told that this card would basicaly be over kill. so why am i getting such low frame rates? Notice: the FPS does not change depending on if i have only 1 monitor or both my monitors on. My second one is a 1280x1080 screen running mainly aim, firefox, or monitor programs.

while 4GB RAM should be plenty, I do see lots and lots of stuff running in the background. Do you get any better FPS running lean (meaning just the game and nothing else)?

and disable v-sync, as zecow said

That's low for your setup. I get a constant 60FPS with a 5200+, 2GB ram, and an HD 4850 running at 720 core and 1120 memory. And that's with 8x AA and 16x AF with all high settings. So I would suggest turning off background programs and maybe defrag your harddrive.
