Since you simply asked if they are compatible I will simply say that yes they are.

just want to update from an old athlon, and have the potential to upgrade to a stronger processor down the road. What is the fastest cpu line that can run on this board? phenom? x2? x3?

Been out of the game for awhile.

whell, since it was AM2+ you could get a phenom quad at 3ghz. i mean, 1.9 is considered slow nowadays, i see nothing wrong with the board. if all you are doing is simple stuff like IM, or word proccessing and internet you will be satisfied but dont exspect to get good performance is modern day games.

You know that "open box" means that someone returned it and newegg did not find anything wrong with it after about 5 minutes messing with it?

Reply to The_Blood_Raven

i just read the review for it and it is overclockable and the guy sayd he hit 2.2 with no temp change so it will be ok but still dont exspect a ton for high performance programs.
but ya, what the blood raven says, the Motherboard is open box so beware.

It should be a big jump up from my Intel Celeron M @1.40ghz w/ 32k L2 Cache w/ Intel 940 MB w/ Intel 945 iGPU and 2.0gb 266 ram, running IDE drives, etc?

I also like this board since it has a cuda enabled GPU chipset. I'm kinda of a seti@home buff.

Right?

Yes, of course they will work together. If you're patient, Newegg regularly puts the 5000+ on sale for $49.99. That can usually be overclocked to 3.1GHZ. That would be a lot faster than the 1.9MHz processor.
Also, are you taking into account you are going to need DDR2 memory? Not a big deal. 4gb of DDR2800 can be had for as low as $30.

thanks. I know this will still be low-end, by my current is beyond obsolete!

I'm not sure I would go with anything slower than 2.4 ghz right now. Most modern games will require at least that much speed.

An improvement? Yes but incremental. You will be wanting another proc in 6 months.

Get the 5000 BE

That thing would be an awsome wireless router with Intrusion detection and a network wide virus scanner, with a built in ftp, file, email, and web server. It could do all that while sitting under you tv quietly streaming hd video while useing less power than you TV set does.
