GTX 260 216 beats the GTX 280 for half the price?

I am hearing that the GTX260 216 can easily be overclocked to match or beat the 280 for half the price. Is this true while running on air and very stable? Then cant the 280 also be OCed to then top the 260 again always one step ahead? The GPUreview.com card comparison shows this is no way possible just by the shear numbers, but you cant always go by that I know. I am in the market to buy one right now, so has anybody tested this or heard anything about it?

p.s. Anyone seeing any hot deals on these cards right now?

Just get XFX GTX 260 xxx edition. It has 192 cores, but its faster than all the others GTX 260 even wit 216 cores. Think if you overclock her more!! I have this card from July and i am very very VERY satisfied! Specs very close to GTX 280.

In Crysis at 1680X1050, very high, 8X AA i get 40,3 fps!!
My cpu is E6850 and 4 GB of Ram.

The gtx 280 is not worth the extra money. Nvidia shot them self in the head after they created a card to take down the 4870. Take advantage of this blunder and go for the gtx 260 216

Here are the results guys with the latest Crysis Benchmarks at 1680x1050 res.

gtx 260 = 33fps
gtx 260 FTW = 36fps
gtx 260 core 216 Superclocked = 38.44fps (beats stock 280)
gtx 280 = 37.97fps
gtx 280 FTW = 39fps

the GTX 260 core 216 Superclocked is only 1 frame lower then the GTX 280 FTW which I think is going for $500 right now. That is insane. Go get the GTX 260 core 216 Superclocked. You will beat the GTX 280. Then you can even OC even more for more performance. All this at about $200 cheaper. I found my card finally.

Here are the facts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcvGXPaQg-8

Upon more research, it would seem the GTX 260 core 216 Superclocked card actually just trails behind the 280 by a very small margin in most games. Remember it can still be OCed. They even give you a program to OC the card in the box. For the price difference there is no comparison. The 260/216 SC is the way to go. If you got all the money in the world then buy 3 280's but if you are on a budget then 260. Heres a good website that talks all about it.

What is your COre at? It should be 640 or something right? Well they now have the XFX GTX 260 core 216 Black edition at 666 core speed. So now you are getting the super fast factory OCed and with the 216 processing cores.

What is XFX's warranty like? Do they have step up programs, lifetime warranties, anything cool like that?

Hey,

I just looked at their site and they said all their cards have a double lifetime warranty. What did 3 year come from?

http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/Help/Support/WarrantyInformation.aspx?ispreview=true

Quick questions for ya... I am wondering how and why the XFX xxx edition is better then the XFX Black Edition.

XXX= 640 core, 1150 mem, and 192 shader processor cores

Black edition = 666 core, 1150 mem, 216 shader processor cores.

For about the same price the Black edition has an increased core and an increased 216 shader processor. I could be wrong, but please show us if you have any charts or benchmarks showing the xxx to be superior.

Thats a good point... Does anyone have charts that show just which GTX 260 is best out of all the versions? I looked and am still looking and nothing so far.

I found this, but all it shows are the 192 versions of the GTX 260 and the OCed versions, but not any 216 version. What it shows is that the clock speed matters most out of each 260 version. The EVGA FTW is clocked at 666 and the XFX XXX is at 640. The xxx version is always slightly under the FTW. That proves the clock speed is key here. Now I haven't found anything yet, but, I am still assuming the 216 series is still going to perform better because of the high core clock speed and the extra 216 shader processes. Please correct me if I am wrong. Heres the site. http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8518&Itemid=40&limit=1&limitstart=1
