Is it possible to have a second power supply power components inside a case while the internal psu powers other components and the motherboard itself? For example, my case originally came with a 450w psu and I was given a slightly used (but still good) 500w psu. I was thinking of having the internal psu plugged into the motherboard and running the processor, memory, hard drives, and optical drives and the other one to power a video card. Will that work or do both psu's have to be plugged into the motherboard? Both PSU's have their own toggle switch on the back as well.

I never heard of such thing. Never seen 2 psu connections on a mobo either. but if you did do that and there was a way to do it, you will have one hell of a time getting airflow due to too many cords. why not just use one psu...

I do have one PSU...a 950w. It was just a curiosity question. Something I have always wondered, but never really tried. Tight income so don't want to take many chances with blowing up any components as it would be hard to get a replacement.

Yes, you can piggyback 2 PSUs. Can't remember how though.

I use a Thermaltake Toughpower Power Express 450W, a GPU decicatedpower supply. You also have the 650 W version
