San Disk Cruzer erased data is still there!

Hello,
When I scan my Cruzer with Avast upon putting it in my PC, it goes through a lengthy scan that includes all the old data that I once had on the Sandisk Cruzer, but that I thought was erased.
Does anyone know how to completely get rid of all the old data? Thanks!
