hey everyone, so im planning to either upgrade of build a new system from scratch.
My currect computer has:

amd am2 4600+ x2 (stock)
asus crosshair motherboard
7600GT video card
OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Platinum 2GB
CNPS9500 AM2 ( HSF)
silverstone strider 600w

And if i was to upgrade i was planning on getting a 5600+ x2 and OCing it, and get a 8800GT or 9800GT.
But if i build a new system im going to wait for intel to release their new cpu so prices are lower on the Q9550 or mayb something decent from the new range of i7 and get a HD4870 or HD4870 x2 and LC the system.

Tell me watcha think is the best solution? thanks

Those are your two options alright :)

While your CPU upgrade isn't huge, seems to me like you would see some pretty nice gains upgrading the video card and the new CPU would be (barely) adequate.

$200.00 might last you 8-10 months, and by then the dust will have settled and you can look at both i7 and Deneb and build new.

Maybe upgrade to 4GB RAM as well.

i can live with wat i got, but i dont like playn games on low :( but i guess overall in the end i should build new comp wen i7 release right? cus the "older" computer parts will be cheaper

wat cpu would be adequate?

I would upgrade what you have right now.
But, I would get a 4850. That will last you for at least 6 months till i7 is here, prices have settled. I don't think right now is the best time to be building. Personally, I would wait until after the first of the year.

But if you don't want to spend the money on a 4850, dude even a 8800 is going to put you light years ahead of the 7600 you have now. It is outdated, and a very slow card for gaming. That is why we are saying upgrade. For relatively little cash, you are going to get a big performance jump from what you have now. Wait a little on the i7 stuff.

upgade to 4gb of ram get a 9800Gt of HD4850 and you will be set until i7 comes out then upgade then and just oc your CPU right now

Think about this though, if you are going to build a new rig soon, you can always carry the video over. Buy a decent GPU now, even if your AMD rig is not going to get full use out of it. Then when you do build, you don't have to lay out cash again for another GPU. Memory...well that is up to you. You can carry it over as well. I really would not spend money on a CPU though.
Overclock your current CPU a little, with a 4850 you are going to get a big improvement that will keep you happy till you start over with a new platform.

If you're just worried about playing games, you won't really feel the difference in that CPU upgrade. Spend your budget on the best gpu you can get and OC the cpu if you feel the need. If you get i7 in the future, the ram won't carry over as you'll need DDR3 for it.
