Camera says cannot use disk

my nikon camera camera says cannot use disk after i tried to load photos to computer which did not happen.
the computer says there is nothing there but i know there was.

What type of disk is this? Did you get any messages when you tried to use the disk on the computer?

OK, sounds like the disk got corrupted, you'll need to format it to get it usable again. You'll lose your data on it though.

Put the card in the camera, and look in your manual on the steps to format it for use. If the camera does not see the card at all, format it in the PC (right-click on it's drive letter, and select Format. Use FAT32 file system), then try it in the camera again.

Just in case, I'd try looking for the pictures when the card is in the camera, and if you can see them there you might be able to download them from the camera to the computer. Was this the first time you used a new card? Often they need to be formatted before use, sometimes in the camera itself.
