How to edit the ”New File” list in Windows Explorer?
Either from the Menu File>New or a right click on the Windows Explorer?

TweakUI for Windows XP, in the Templates section.

TweakUI is available from

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp (SP1 and later systems)

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/downloads/powertoys.asp (Pre SP1 systems)

Thank you for the quick replay.
Tweak UI down-loaded and installed.
The funny thing is that TXT file does show up (checked) in Tweak UI>My
Computer>Templates BUT it does not show up the 'New File' List?

If all you want to do is remove the new file types, TweakUI can do
that.

Hi Tommy,

In the meantime, download FileExtInfo from:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/utils/fileextinfo.zip

Unzip and run it. Select the .TXT from the listbox, and click "View
associations......." option. This utility exports the file association keys
for the corresponding file type. Post the log file here, as the information
may helps us determine the problem.
