9500GT vs 7900GS

Does anyone know of any benchmark sites that compare previous generation Video cards with current ones?

I bought my wife an EVGA 9500GT and I have to say I am very impressed with it.

It reminds me a lot of the 7900GS. The card seems to be almost the exact same size and the cooler seems the same.

In my guess-imation I think a 9500GT would beat out a 7900GS by perhaps as much as 15%-20%.

Does this estimate seem within reason?

Or do you think the 7900GS is a stronger card.

BTW the 9500GT is the DD2 version.

9500gt is a re badged 8600gt which was about equal to 7900gs but with ddr2 I doubt it.

Not to mention that the 7900GS is a strong overclocker. I would imagine that current/modern games might have them close, but the 7900GS should hold the lead overall.

actually I think it is an 8600GT rebadged, now that I look at the picture of the 8600GT.

Despite that though it still seems like a very nice card, especially for the price.

That depends on the price. I do think the low end sweet spot right now is the 4670/9600GSO. Not the 128/256bit 9600GSO, but the rebadged 8800GS. (192 bit) Performance is quite a bit better then the 8600/9500GT, and they don't cost to much more either. (unless you found a 9500GT on a fire sale.)
