is it worth 34 euro's to pay more for the 940?

i don't over clock, and i think it's the last pc i'm building for the next 3 years.
i also want to spend not more than 800 euro's in total.

1 x GigaByte MA790FX-DS4 (Retail, FireWire, RAID, Gb-LAN, Sound, ATX
1 x Samsung SH-S223F
1 x Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (System Builder, Engels, SP
1 x GigaByte GV-R485ZL-512H (Retail, TV-Out, 2x DVI)
1 x AMD Phenom II X4 940
1 x Western Digital Caviar SE16 (Bulk, WD2500AAKS)
1 x OCZ DIMM 4 GB DDR2-1066 Kit (OCZ2G10664GK, XTC Gold)
776,12EUR

but if i get the 920, i can get a better gpu if i want to.

just 1 question now, is 940 it worth over 920?

mmh, good guys, i'll change the 940 to a 920, and the 4850 for a 4870.
now should i go for gigabyte board, or a msi? both of them are 790, but the gigabyte one has crossfire!

1 x Sapphire HD4870 (Retail, TV-Out, 2x DVI)
795.81 Euro

so if i get the msi mobo, the price gets -11 euro's, but can i trust msi over gigabyte? and i've picked the 512mb version of the sapphire 4870, because i don't think i can use the 1GB. i'm not going over 1650 resolution. or should i pick it?

thanks anyway!!! maybe it's better to get the 512mb one, i don't go above 1650 resolution. i want to play gtaIV, but i don't think that 1GB would make the big difference, would it?.

i've got the perfect idea:

1 x GigaByte MA790FX-DS4 (Retail, FireWire, RAID, Gb-LAN, Sound, ATX
1 x Samsung SH-S223F
1 x Sapphire HD4870 (Light-Retail, TV-Out, 2x DVI)
1 x Western Digital Caviar SE16 (Bulk, WD2500AAKS)
1 x AMD Phenom II X4 920
1 x OCZ DIMM 4 GB DDR2-1066 Kit (OCZ2G10664GK, XTC Gold)
1 x Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic (System Builder, Nederlands,
769,89EUR

vista basic instead of homepremium. 64 bit!

if i count 30.5 euro's for the assembling, it's 800,39 euro's!!, that's perfect

what do you guys think?

yes i know, i'm a storm in my thinking, but i really need a new pc!

yea i would wait as well..not to mention current gen videocard prices are falling again (at least in the states). and what do you mean by "the literal green" o_O

You ahven't beenhere long enough to know.

She is green in the sense that she does a lot to have the most energy efficient PC in the world. I would even bet that a Intel Atom system would have a tough time competing with her system for top low power usage system that can still run games.

I don't think that the Phenom II 940's all that bad for non-overclockers. It, at least, allows the option for later. The price difference at Newegg today is "only" $40, but that could be a show stopper for some.

This calculator shows I have a low carbon footprint:

* Your footprint is 2.53 tonnes per year
* The average footprint for people in United States is 20.40 tonnes
* The average for the industrial nations is about 11 tonnes
* The average worldwide carbon footprint is about 4 tonnes
* The worldwide target to combat climate change is 2 tonnes

http://www.carbonfootprint.com/

Yet, I read in the Statesman awhile back that you can't have a truly low footprint in a state that relies upon coal fired plants. We buy used clothes for that retro hippie look, don't drive and take the bus only when necessary, but we do get rides from friends who drive on occasion. We rent and spend more on new PC tech than we do anything else.

I guess we're good for the environment, but with all those big trucks and SUV's popular around here, I don't think it adds up to much.

and 40 nm cores? on the gpu? or cpu?

oh, and when does the new ati 58xx come out? because i don't think i want to spend money on nvidia.

It won't be ready in my book until the 880G boards arrive, but then I have a jones for AMD chipsets with good southbridges and better IGP's.

That would be one who's IGP is based on the 4830. That's more likely to happen once the graphics are integrated into the CPU.

I'm not sure where AMD's going with that one the desktop, though. Ideally, I'd love to see a 4 core 65 watt Phenom II with one core being a 4830 class GPU. Packaged non natively into an 8 core that would be 6 CPU's and 2 GPU's.

Then, if the chipset supports powering down a discrete GPU, the savings would be tremendous for gamers. Get a 5xxx series card to play Far Cry 3, Elder Scrolls 4 or Fallout 4, and power down when posting at Tom's Hardware in 2012.

Nvidia got it working but AMD didn't manage to. It was supposed to be on the 780G, but won't be out until the 880G. That's what I'll need with a 4870x2; something better than two GPU's powering down to 300 while surfing the net.
