Computer freezes when trying to install any programs or sometimes when I put in

I have attempted to install Nero 9 and to view Photos as well as play CD music on my computer. I keeps freezing as soon as I insert the disk. I have ANY DVD on my computer and it appears that once the program realises there is a new disc in the D: Drive it then freezes.

Any suggestions what I can do.

First I need more information, has it always been like that or did the problem pop up suddenly ? What has changed in your system before this happened ?
It can be a bad DVD drive but I cannot tell with little info. It can be a bad setup in hardware config., some anti-virus program might be attempting to scan before reading.
