I am the administrator on my computer. When I install things they also
install and auto start on other users accounts. I have a vpn set up for work
and have downloaded some software for work. But its now showing up on the
other users name as well as auto starting when they log on. How do I stop
what I install on the administrator from showing up on their screen as well
as stop the auto starts from starting on their screen.

Hi,

How it installs is determined by the software writers, over this you have no
control. What you can do now though, is disable it from autostarting with
the system (see below), and place a shortcut to it in just your user
profile's startup folder here:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Depending on where it is currently loading from, you may be able to stop the
system-wide loading by looking at the startup tab of msconfig. Click
start/run and type msconfig, then click ok. Go to the startup tab and check
to see if you can disable it here.

Installing and running software in Windows XP
http://www.rickrogers.org/xpsware.htm

To move the program specific common startup items (that loads from the
registry) to your startup (per-user), you may try the edit the registry
manually, or try the following utility:

Flip Startup Items Version 1.1.0.2
http://crazyone.tekmasters.com/crazyone.html

If you intend to edit the registry manually, the Startup entries may be
located in this location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

*Always backup the registry before modifying.
