Installing 1TB hard drive on an old desktop

I am planning to install a 1TB SATA HDD on my old desktop that has a Elite Group (ECS) 761GX-M754 (3.0A) Motherboard (http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?detailid=560&CategoryID=1&DetailName=Specification&MenuID=1&LanID=0). It has a 512MB RAM now and planning to upgrade that to 1GB, not right way but in a few months. Will installing the new HDD cause any performance problems?

  1. So long as you aren't using a really old operating system (say, 98 or earlier) I don't know of any problems that you would run into.
  2. You need Windows XP SP1 or later to use a drive larger than 137GB.
