so i just built a new system, but I'm having problems with my 4870x2, when first installed i download the drivers from ati ccc 8.11. The problem was the gpu and memory clock would stay at idle all the time(GPU 507Mhz , Memory 500Mhz). after doing some research i downgraded the drivers and now the gpu and memory clock changes when i start a game(gpu 750MHz Memory 900MHz) which is good. but now the problem is that when i play a game the activity of the GPU is only the 69% not 100% like it should be. The FPS have improve but im not happy as im getting almost the same preformance as an 4870 please help me

cpu: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz
mobo:ASUS P5Q-E
memory : CORSAIR Dominator 4gb(2x2gb) 1066
psu: Rosewill RX630-S-B 630W 80 PLUS Certified

Sounds to me like you arent running something demanding enough to push 100% load on the card. What are you playing? Resolution? Detail?

Also on a side note, be ready to kiss all your hardware good bye with that low quality PSU. If you are going to run below the rated required specs (650 watt) at least have a good quality PSU like a PCP&C or Corsair.

well, im playing crysis and far cry 2, everything on max settings, resolution is 1280 by 1024, thanks for the advise about the ps ill try to get a better one

Well at that resolution you wont be seeing much of an improvement for FPS. You really need to be above 1680x1050 in order to really take advantage of that GPU. Also you should overclock your CPU to 3ghz minimum to make sure you arent bottlenecking the card. Sounds to me that with your monitor you should have spent more on your PSU and less on your GPU for your build. But that is just personal opinion.

What heatsink do you have?

OP, in crysis everything maxed, what sort of fps do you get roughly?

Also, what settings are you using in the CCC, specifially the catalyst A.I and are you running in windowed mode by accident.

Don't worry about the bottlenecking, 200mhz ain't magically going to change anything.

right now i have the stock heatsink(haven't decide if im going liquid or air cooling, and i got this video card because im changing my monitor(24" ). also i don't want to overclock for now, that is if i don't need to.

im getting about 26-38 fps depending the situation, in the ccc im using all defaults, except for the fan speed (gpu clock 750MHz Memory clock 900MHz)
and yeah im sure im playing fullscreen

another thing i notice is that sometimes the gpu idles at 49% activity
