No, it won't. What it will take advantage is a stronger CPU. The graphics are still ho-hum, but the increased draw distance and dynamic shadow quality are what are taxing systems now - and thats CPU related (straight from a post I saw a Blizzard mod make in their tech support forum).
I think there are some good deals on 1 GB models and they are very useful for new games with detailed textures. I'd still go for one over the 512 MB version.

Sorry but that extra RAM won't make a spit of difference on WOW since it won't use it. You're talking about a game that can run on integrated nVidia 6150 graphics so it doesn't exactly need alot of GPU power to run well.
I have a friend who has a HD4850 512MB card and he can not run WOW with everything maxed out with out the frame rates dropping in major cities or in large battles.
However he is also sporting an AMD 64x2 3800 which for sure has got to be a choking point to some degree.
+1 to Jeffredo and while i usually agree with Megmanx00, he's wrong about WoW after release of WotLK, you can not run WoW at max settings and get good framerates (+30-40fps) on any integrated graphic system any longer, not in anything but empty zones.
Rwayne, remember that some of those settings (already mentioned) are CPU dependent, not GPU. If he maxed out the GPU only settings, he should be fine. Even with the x2 3800, he should be able to get close to the max settings for the CPU variables. I agree with the others. If all you play is WoW, the 4870 512MB card should be fine. Get the 1GB if you play other games that like Vram.

What I'd love to see is an update to the old Anandtech article on video cards for WoW, but this time including not only Wrath of the Lich King but also Mines of Moria and Age of Conan.
Not playing WoW, but LOTRO's Mines of Moria and the 3870x2 I bought last February recently died on me with black screens in LOTRO pre-Moria and post Moria, quickly becoming black screens when booting into Vista with very loud fan noises. I'm RMA'ing it this week.
So, I'm playing it on the HD3200 in the interim. Haven't done any raids, but it runs pretty good at high settings in Eregion and Moria with lots of regular activity. Perhaps the graphics haven't been as updated as WoW?
