Good day to all,

First off I want to give my thanks in advance to anyone reading this, specially those willing to lend a hand. I'm a noob on steroids when it comes to OC. My goal is to get my I7 920 running at 3.0ghz (or as close as possible) without the need of any coolant besides the ones that comes with the processors box. My rigg is as follow:

*Intel Core i7-920 Nihilem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache

*ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

*OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000)

*CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active

*BFG Tech BFGEGTX2801024OCXE GeForce GTX 280 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16

*RAIDMAX Tornado ATX-238WU Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (1 120mm Fan on rear, 1 80mm in front and 1 in side).

Values are appreciated. Also, any info on the ram OC would be great.

Read my guides that are located in my sig.

If you get an aftermarket cooler you should be able to hit 4.0 ghz no problem.

I will, but, do you think 3.0ghz is possible with my current setup w/o any aftermarkets, or is it risky. I'm really not looking to buy one, just want to get what I can out of what I got

you could probably do 3.2-3.3 without even increasing voltage.

I tried this out last night. I went with default voltage on everything and tried out how far I could get.

3.5Ghz on default voltage, and 35C idle and 42C full bore with a TRUE-120. it would probably idle at around 40-44C in idle and get up to around 55C with the retail cooler. those are tolerable temps.

Good luck.
