How do you know it was the GPUs fault for the blue screens? Maybe you threw out the wrong thing...

Of the cards you listed, the GX2 is the fastest. The card gets little love however unless you forum name is dagger. When the card came out, people complained about the heat and driver issues. I have zero idea if these have been fixed. After that, the cards are GTX260, 8800GTX, 9800GTX+, 8800GTS. I have no idea which of these cards are less then 350 euros.

1280x1024 isn't a big resolution, even the 8800GTS should be able to handle that. I played TF2 with a single core 3500+ and an x1800xt 256MB card at 1280x1024 with 2AA and got playable frame rates. Even the 8800GT should be able to handle what you want.

Well it had to be the gpu since it was caused by ati3duag.dll and i also think it was overheating(65-75 degrees loading then BOOOOM)I priced all the cards and i know my prices, but i aslo want to play some crysis so i think i will need more than an 8800Gt Lol and if you can could you plz find some info on the GX2 issuse's getting fixed PLZ.thanks

75c isn't hot for a GPU. Did you try changing the drivers?

If you want performance, look to the GX2 and the 260/260+. If you can afford them, they are the best. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure at 1280x1024 even Crysis on the highest settings should work. You'd need more then the 8800GT, but the 9800GTX or the even slightly faster 8800GTX should be fine.

And I'm not your b!tch, so don't try to be my pimp. Do your own digging on any possible GX2 issues. (or just wait for dagger to come along and brag about how great the card is. And thats my attempt at humor.)

i would suggest a 9800GTX; but even that might be bottlenecked by the 5000+ cpu

if anything i'd attempt to take advantage of the warranty (if you have one) on the 4850.

Ok,well i have narrowed it down to 3 cards the 9800GTX+,GTX260 And what about and an 8800GTS OC'd edition???
the reason why i aint gettin the GX2 is because the site i am using doesnt have it,i live in ireland AND i dont want any shipping costs form england oh and im really impatient when it comes to stuff arriving!!! lol.
I hope i can affored the GTX260 (305 euros) for christmas and if not it will be the other two choices!!

And i respect you when you said that you aint my bitch( i hade to lol) and i didnt mean it lyk that!!!
and i did change the drivers multiple times!!!

the 260 would be a good card for you, BTW did you clean out your nvidia drivers b4 you installed the 4850, sounds like it was your problem and not the cards

+1 for the 260 if that's still within your budget. Remember, always get the absolute best card you can possibly afford and you'll be ok for at least 2 years.

I was trying to make a joke Djk, don't worry about it.

The 8800GTS (512MB cards, not the older 640/320MB cards) are basically the same as the 9800GTX. They share the same internal structure, the GTX cards are simply clocked higher. Unless the GTS has higher clock speeds then the GTX, I still wouldn't get it if you like the two free games. I vote for the GTX with free games.

ok well here are the links to both the 8800GTS and the 9800GTX+

8800GTS - http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullat.asp?productcode=ECE1548041#spec

9800GTX+ - http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullat.asp?productcode=ECE1597479#spec

so hope that helps on deciding which one is better (im leaning towards the GTX+ since it has 55nm and two free games)

I have already RMA'd the 4850 and what i meant by the PSU working fine on it was that it had no powering problems its was basically a driver fault that BSOD'd everytime i loaded a game(i already have a topic on this its called "BSOD for the ati radeon 4850??" if you wanna check it out)and it came up as ati3duag.dll was causing the error!!!

Are you saying here that you fromerly had the 8500gt which worked and after you installed the HD4850 it would not? It's not what you said but is that what you ment to say? You also state the you RMA'ed it, so you have had the card only a short time. Did it ever work? Would it function during 2D usage? Seems like with these assumptions that there are three possibilities. A bad card to be rma'ed. Improper driver install. Insufficient PSU. Very few VCs leave the factory flawed they are tested prior to packaging. A flawed card usually has a component problem after some use and then a part failure. How many GPUs are victims to buyer improper install and handling? Static shock, droping. the cat sits on it, driver install problems? It could be any one of the three, but since you state that when loading a game it crashed and since the vc was trying to pull more power to load and operate in 3D mode the PSU may be the problem. It's hard to say really at what level your PSU is working. When you get your new card and you are considering a couple of power hungry cards be wary of the PSU if you have any problems. Best of luck with the new card. I'd go with the 9800gtx+ or the gtx260 not the 8800.

If I'm were you then I would wait until there is new HD 4850's Driver Update. Or go with slower GPU like GeForce 9800 GTX+ (with 55nm G92 core) since you are using a low resolution.

Quite a reply there topper, but yes the 8500GT did work after i uninstalled the 4850,yes it did work for a short period of time,i did a fresh install of xp pro before installing the 4850,installed the drivers using the instructions provided, the psu could have been a problem,i did use a static band during the installation of both cards, never droped it,the cat Never sat on it lol, could have also been driver related,i am probably going to get the 9800GTX+ and would you know if this PSU is any good - http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/1385018/art/advance/ea4g-750-750w-pc-power-un.html plz check ot out.THANKS!!!

i did what you did too, fresh install of xp and sp3. didnt worked on my 4850.

know what i did? i switch to windows VISTA. it worked on my case. problem is i need to raise funds for the next 30 days till this thing becomes deactivated.

i just dont want to part with my 4850 considering its blazing fast and cheap so vista was the last resort.

you should try switching OS. the 4850 is the most cost effective card right now.

I looked at your link. I don't know the OEM. 750 is plenty of power. If that is your first best choice then go for it. Just wondering out loud, I wonder if SP3 is somehow giving all these GPUs (both ATI and Nidia) a hard time? If anyone knows the sing out!
