Hello all,

I finally convinced my wife to allow me to build a new computer, old one was an AMD FX-55 based machine.

New one is as follows:

AMD Phenom X4 9850 BE
BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX 128M
8GB OCZ Platnum DDR2 1066
ATI Radeon 4670 1GB

I do not intend to Overclock for at least the fist 3 months. No plans for Crossfire at this time.
How big of a PSU do I actually need?

How do I calculate the required PSU as I have not actually purchased the items and therefore do not have the specs?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

If I were you I would get a Phenom II instead. They perform better and overclock better as well.

AFAIK when you run 4 sticks of RAM with a Phenom it won't run at 1066, so you may as well get some 800 instead. I would also buy RAM rated at 1.8V (G-Skill & Mushkin are good).

I don't think you'll notice the difference in 1GB versus 512MB on a 4670.

As far as the PSU, a good quality 300W+ would be plenty. I'd suggest Antec Earthwatts 380 or 430, Seasonic S12II 380 or 430, or Corsair VX450.

Thank you, really appreciate the advice. Especially on the RAM as I was not aware of that issue.
You just saved me a bunch of cash.
