Hey, been 4 years since a new system build, got a few questions and ultimately should i wait until the I9's come out. (will prices really drop THAT much?)

Specs:

MOBO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188024
EVGA LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI
ddr2800
1333 mhz
780i
$184.99
might be a little overkill?

PROCESSOR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
1333 mhz
$188.99
Had a bad overclock experience with my current soltek board, crappy apps, and no support since they went out of business.
I'm not sure what makes something overclock worthy but can i overclock this to maybe 3.5?

GRAPHICS CARD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130376
EVGA 512-P3-N873-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
Was originally wanting the 8800GTX, but it looks like newegg dropped it yesterday,. Seemed like the next best thing
$164.99

RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
$35.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231094
G.SKILL 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
$24.99
I wanted to get 3gigs of ram because of the 3.25 limit, but that might be stupid and might be cheaper to just go with 2x2 gigs.
i also can't afford and don't feel like overclocking it.

CASE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811294001
Hell yeah, all black.

POWER
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Retail
little confused on power supplies. Most high end video cards are recommending like 450 watt min. But when i put it in the online calculator it gives me like max 367 for my total rig, which makes no sense. any hints?

FANS

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223
is it worth it to spend 30 to get the zalman fan. I'll most likely be OC'ing in the future.

Any help is much 'preciated. also any "your doing it wrong'"

e8400 = e8500, can prob get it a little cheaper, get a diff. mobo, possibly a p5q, and an ati 4850 based gpu, with this can get 4gb of ram np

Drop the mobo and GPU and take an ASUS P5Q Pro with an HD4850. You'll even save ~$70 from going away from Nvidia's chipset, that would actually cripple your entire system.

Also, you don't need 750W for a single GPU. Any Seasonic, Corsair, Antec or PC Power & Cooling PSU is fine, look around 500-600W (Different brands have different wattage models).

If for some reason you don't want to get an ATi card (there is no reason, but anyway) then, again drop the motherboard and use an Asus P5Q Pro. You won't be able to SLI on it, but for a single card it is better than your current choice.

+1 for non-Nvidia mobo and HD4850.
Don't get Core i7 when it launches. 1) It's going to be overpriced because its "new technology." 2) There will probably be bugs and stability issues that need to be worked out. 3) LGA775 isn't a dead socket just yet.

nah stick with the 750watt psu... icy might not realize it , but his words are slightly contradictory

yeah, dump the psu only if you plan on a SINGLE GPU setup, you shouldn't need more than 550watt quality psu...

but +1 on the dumping the sli mobo, heard some bad things about them, never first hand though

Here is info on the Core i7 build if you decide to wait and build it.

Core i7 CPU's
Core i7 965 Extreme 3.20 GHz 6.4 GT/s yes 8 MB $999+
Core i7 940 2.93 GHz 4.8 GT/s no 8 MB $562+
Core i7 920 2.66 GHz 4.8 GT/s no 8 MB $284

DDR3 Tri Channel Ram will be needed and come in these sizes.

1gb stick
3x1gb kits $140+
3x2gb kits $260+

X58 Motherboards reviews, which will do either SLi or Crossfire have been surfacing. Asus, MSI, Gigabyte. Intel and EVGA so far and will cost in the $310 to $400 range. Imho the Asus P6T Deluxe looks to be the best one. It has 2 SAS ports onboard, great layout and 16+2 phase PWN, will support up to 24GB of DDR3-1333 memory, thanks to its six DIMM slots.

The rest of your Hardware will work fine. The X58 Motherboards, DDR3 Tri Channel Ram, Core i7 CPU's and aftermarket HSF out in the next month or so. So it is your decision if you build now or wait for next generation of computer parts.

Ok I had a complete overhaul and wanted to run it buy you guys again. everything of course is different
I think i've found a great price to power ratio. so mainly let me know if you see anything wrong, like bottlenecking, incompatibilty or unreliables

I think my brain is bleeding already so go easy!
