I just bought this from newegg the other day for about 80 bucks with free shipping. I figured it was a pretty good deal since I had read some good things about the 9600 gso's especially this one with 768 mb.

So i was just wondering if I made a big mistake and I should have just gone with a 4670. Also if anybody has one of these I would like to know how its working out for you.

This card is much faster then the 4670 especially once overclocked.
that should easily clock to 675-700 on the core, 1700+ on the shaders and im not sure about the memory. Anyway, with it clocked like above, you will be on par with the 8800 GT at stock clocks.

the 8800GS/9600 GSO cards are great. Good buy!

^ agree, it's a good card , especially at the price you bought it.

I believe that this 768mb version only uses ddr2 @ 1000mhz. This slower ram will greatly hurt the performance, especially since these cards only have a 192bit bus. So, a 4670 probably will outperform it. The 9600gso with 96 stream processors and 384mb ddr3 is a better card.

damn, I didn't know that XFX had made a DDR2 9600 GSO. Agree with Orangegator, i'd return it if it's an option. A 9600GT or HD3870 .....should add 512, DDR3 would be a better option at that price point.

I just purchased one of these cards the other day and i am very disappointed. Here is the link. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814150320 I am not sure if something is set wrong, and i have tried the latest drivers from Nvidia. My Aquamark 3 scores are right around 87k.

My specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 6000x2 3.1
ASUS M3A78-CM AMD 780V
4gb ddr 800 ram
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
Antec Truepower 430
22in 1680x1050

I know this is a budget card, and wasn't expecting a ton, but what exactly is the problem with this card? is it the Gddr2. If so i plan on returning it and some suggestions below $150 would be great.

could someone please chime in on this.

It is the ddr 2 version.

They've got some 9600gt cards that would work well, if you can spend 150 though, may as well look at an ATI 4850.

I think a 4850 is what im leaning towards. Im guessing for around $150 i should be looking for something like this.

Check it out though, there is a Sapphire 4830 on newegg right now for 109.00 and free shipping. It's not a bad deal.

Myself, I've been debating what to pick up today too. I'm going with the 9600gt, though it's not the card the 4850 or 4830 are, the price is right on the one I'm eyeballing. Either way, it'll be an awesome upgrade coming from a 7300 LE. Though I've been watching the cards for about the past year and reading reviews.

Since I just ordered the 9600 GSO 768 on eBay for $50, it is the clear cut winner for me. I will be selling my HD3450 for the same price and basically getting a free upgrade. Go ahead and spend money if you need to. I actually decided to just buy more games and deal with the low end 3450 for a while, but accidentally stumbled upon the deal as someone bought a new card and priced it to sell fast (as I have done in the past myself). This should hold me over until there's a 295 for $50 in a few years lol.

DDR2 memory only hurts if the only thing your going to do with the card is run benchmark tests. You have a 768mb graphics buffer.. I have this card and it runs everything I throw at it from PONG to TETRIS... just kidding.. its a good card for under $100. all the latest titles run at high resolutions. a couple get chooppy but i just drop the resolution down a bit.. you dont even notice the difference in resolution.

I picked up a new 9600 GSO OC'd 768mb card with GDDR3 on Ebay the other day for $78.99 shipped. I looked at the XFX 9600 GSO at a retailer and it was cheaper after the "Rebate" but rebates are the luck of the draw. Plus it being a factory OC'd card with GDDR3 made it it the clear winner. I also bought a BFG 650w PSU to power it.

Hope you didn't get the PNY overclocked one, it's been making psus blow up which then causes the mobo to go bad.
