Welcome to the forums!

I'd rather get one of these heatsinks.

For the power supply, I'd get a Corsair 750W.

With a X48 motherboard, that supports Crossfire, I 'd rather get a HD4870 1 GB. That way you can Crossfire it later on.

The ASUS Rampage Formula is a great MB. It has the X48 chipset and supports 16x/16x crossfire and overclocks great. The ASUS P5E Deluxe is the Rampage Formula minus the Onboard buttons and the LCD poster.

If that i s too expensive:

Two models stood out, and both used DDR2 rather than DDR3 memory. DFI and Gigabyte had the best onboard feature set, but while Gigabyte also had the most complete set of rear panel ports, DFI had the highest stable DDR2 memory speed. The Lanparty LT X48-T2R also pushed our Core 2 Duo E6850 the farthest, but higher achievable FSB for the X48-DQ6 speed might put it ahead if we’d used a different processor.

i know your spending $2000, but dont throw money at the gpu. The 4870 is a better deal. Or use that $400 for the 280 and get 2 4870s or 2 4850s. Even better a 4870x2.

otherwise the build is fine.

thanks everyone for your comments. so after doing a little more reading up, i made a couple revisions to my machine. Also, would it be better to get 8gb of ddr2 1066 or 4gb of ddr3 1600?

Go with the 8GB DDR2. DDR3 offers no real-world performance benefits (for your setup at least) and is much more expensive.

By the way, very nice build and way to do your research before coming in here to ask for help. I'm sure I speak for all when I saw that I'm a bit tired of all these "build me a system" threads posted by newbies who expect us to make all their choices for them. Good luck with the build!

hey awilson

drop the Artic Freezer 7, its a good cooler but the Xigmatek S1283 is better. and 5$ cheaper.

Xigmatek S2183

and be sure to get the retention bracket for best performance

i guess the total price comes out the same but you're getting a better cooler for it :P

yeah, after reading some more reviews and talking to a few other people, they also recommended the Xigmatek S2183 so i will go with that.

Also, evongugg i really like that case as well, but i will have to see which one my friend likes better. I am building it for him after all haha

So my total comes to ~$2100
also, if anyone can tell me how to make a public wishlist on newegg i will post it as well so you can see my complete build.

Dont get an ASRoCk get a gigabyte they are much more relible, and you dont have to get higher speed ram you just need DDR2 800
