This is going to be my first custom build, though I'm very computer literate and have done many for friends before. It be great if someone can check out this build and give thoughts/suggestions on it. The money is going to be funded by parents (bday and xmas are close together) and college isnt doing me any favors in the money department so suggesting much higher priced items isn't really an option as a warning

I have a 8800GT already (not looking to upgrade for a while), an Antec 500 earthwatt, Sony dvd burner, and Samsung CD drive.


Also if someone can answer this question. The antec 182 case used to be grey (as still pictured on the newegg link) but saw that they are advertising as black now with the official antec site reflecting the black color. I prefer black over grey so if someone can confirm they are shipping out the black cases that be great.

sounds like a decent build. Throw in a 640g WD and you got a winner.

The P182 is like a dark grey. I have one for my dads workstation and it is gray, even though it says "gun metal black". The Pic on newegg is the corect color

as above get the 640WD drive. Great value

You don't need the arctic Silver with the AC freezer. It comes with TIM already applied.

Have you ever actually had your hands on one of those cases? I don't like them. They are popular, I realize. I don't like the plastic.

You should be cautious about getting from newegg if you want a black one. they may be selling off the greys first.

I forgot to ad that I already have 2x WD 250GB hard drives (7200 RPM) so I think I'm good there as space isn't an issue. Thanks for the reminder though and looking out for that.

Thanks for the heads up on the case. I will try to find another site that will sell the black version at a similar price (any suggestions will be cool).

For the thermal paste, I was not aware it comes with some on already but since I'm not paying I might as well still get it for future use (hehe ) thanks for the heads up on that also.

I'm planning on OC my e8500 to around 4GHz so I'm guessing the build I have is ok for this?

Oh, if you were going to push the CPU that much you should get a better cooler.
