Confused on what to get

So i plan on updating my CPU and GPU. Currently i have a 7900gs and an e6550. Ive been looking at either getting a q6600 or a q9550 and either a 260 or wait and get a 280 or a 4850x2. My main dilemma is the CPU. I edit alot of videos and my e6550 aint doing it for me. I was wondering what would be the better value and if the q9550 is that much better than the q6600 and if a solid overclock will put the 6600 past the 9550 or close to it. If i do get a 6600 than i can get the 280 or the 4850x2 immediately pretty much. So yeah im kind of confused on what i should do. I have a 20" widescreen monitor and i usually play games on 1280x1024 or sometimes 1600x1200 so would a 280 and a 4850 be overkill?

a GTX280 is definitely overkill. a 4850 is perfect for 1280x1024, even 1600x1200. (mine is working just fine for me at 1680x1050). the Q6600 would be faster than the Q9550, but only if the former is overclocked and the latter is left at stock. the Q9550 can achieve quite a lot more through overclocking.

Sounds like you just need a single 4850, or perhaps a GTX 260.
