I just built a new computer and want to move most of the non system files from the old Vista HD to the new HD running windows 7. I tried to use the easy transfer wizard but that didn't work, apparently you need some type of crossover cable or something. Anyway, they're both Western Digital HDs. They have a program to clone the HD but that's not what I want to do. I just want to move all my movie, music, etc... files. I know you can't transfer programs, that's fine. Can I just hook up the old HD in the new computer and drag and drop the old files after I boot from the Windows 7 HD?
O yes, such tutorials and the like are way over blown. I've been doing what you plan to do for years now, so it shouldn't be an issue. Plus, you can keep the drives in for additional storage or back up once you are done.
