Help. I just bought Corsair XMS series two sticks of 1GB DDR1 400MHz PC3200 and my Dell desktop Dimension 4550 533MHz FSB won't boot. All I get is beeping from the Motherboard? Luckily, I also bought one stick of 1GB of their Value Select series (DDR1 400MHz PC3200) and it boots fine. Why can't I book with the CMX1024-3200C2PT? I don't know much about BIOS setup. Thanks!

There was a time when the BIOS "AUTO" setting for memory
needed to be changed to permit manual settings with
Corsair XMS in ASUS motherboards. So, in addition to
the memory voltage, take a look at the recommended
timings: download CPU-Z and write down the timings
it reports when your Value Select memory is installed
and working. Then, boot into the BIOS and, with
that VS memory installed, override AUTO and enter
those timings manually. Then, when you switch to
the XMS memory, those timings should still work.

But, as Mondoman advises so well, you may also need
to adjust the memory voltage for the XMS.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. XMS is 2.75v.

thanks for your reply! i've been unable to make ANY substantial changes in the BIOS settings. i've been informed that this particular BIOS has been set that way.

Yes, that's all too common on pre-assembled name-brand computers. I'd contact Corsair tech support (they have been very good in my experience) on the House of Help forum (should be able to get to it from the corsair web site), and ask them to replace these modules with some that are rated at 2.5V (or perhaps they will have another suggestion).
