After a few days of burning my eyes out reading reviews and forums I think I've found a good setup to meet me $1000 budget. If I'm a $100 or so over its okay, I just really wanted to keep things around $1000 for this build. Let me know what you think. I would wait for the new I7 to launch and pickup an intel CPU but I really need to get something together in time for my final exams/reports. My POS Dell laptop is just not cutting it. I do like to game in my spare time (Crysis, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 4, World In Conflict + a few others). I'm thinking the AMD should be fine for a while and its a great price to performance ratio and I can just update my mobo and cpu when the I7 launches. Please comment. Should I splurge on the intel or hold off? Oh I almost forgot, I'm going to be running Vista 64 bit and I do some relatively heavy design stuff with Adobe CS3, one reason I went heavy on the RAM. Let me know, Thanks!

It seems to me that you are spending a great deal on a few cosmetic parts without spending enough on performance.

Let's start with the Velociraptor. That's $100.00 you could have spent on a faster processor, which would have improved your computing experience a great deal more.

Then there is the CM Cosmos. It's a fine case, but you are laying out a great deal for it. Combining that Cosmos with a dual core AMD CPU is like putting a Kia engine in an Acura.

The CPU cooler is not one of the better ones.

You can get an Antec nine hundred case in combination with an Antec Neo 650W PSU for $165.00.

Between that and the HD, you have saved $200.00.

With a budget of 400 bucks, you could get:

E8500: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036

... and still have money left over, maybe even enough to upgrade to a 4870.

With a 1000 budget your better off going with a Intel E8400 with the ASUS P5Q Pro

The case and PSU you have are overkill. Get something within your budget, you don't need 750 watts unless you plan on using 2 GPUs

As far as the i7 chipset, I would not recommend investing in it for at least another year. There is no sense paying Intel to be their debugger...

I have to agree with Proximon and Slomo4. Also your choice of the DFI 790FX uses the old AMD SB600 not the much newer and better SB750. Unless you're a real big AMD fan, go with the Intel E8400/8500 or a Q6600.

Thanks for the links and comments. I think I'll go with the E8400 and P5Q combo recommended my Slomo4shO. I don't know how i talked myself into going AMD, duh the processor is the most important part of the build.

I like that Antec case but a friend of mine picked up the Cosmos when newegg was running that special with 139 and Free shipping and that thing just looks sick. Its a pretty steep purchase now with 179 and no free shipping.

I though I might go crossfire when I get a little money saved up after this build and would this PSU be alright for that or still overkill?

Single 12v rail with 41A?

The 750TX is right for crossfire 4850s, it's only a bit overkill for one. The 550VX would be a great choice for a single GPU.

If you are using a monitor with 1680x1050 resolution or less, the P5Q Pro will be adequate in crossfire. P45 are somewhat limited in crossfire bandwidth, so that they don't perform well at high resolutions, especially with 4870s in CF.
